Two artworks from the PLG Community Mural, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn. Taken yesterday. The mural is located near the east side of Prospect Park. It is very beautiful, and a vital piece of the neighborhood.

The band we’re in, Early Spring, played a show on Friday. About 15 people in the audience, which is an improvement over the previous gig. The sound guy at Lit Lounge treated us like royalty again (thank you!), and we sounded better than we ever have. And, if I may say, my playing on bass guitar has improved considerably since I started four years ago. I finished the show with an important sense of accomplishment.

Yesterday, I had a free afternoon, so I decided to get some fresh air, in spite of the bitter cold (winter is finally here - yay) by walking in Prospect Park, which is a couple of blocks from our house. I ended up walking the entire perimeter, which took well over an hour. We’ve circled the park on bicycle many times; it takes about twenty minutes to do. I hadn’t anticipated a walk taking so much longer. Prospect Park isn’t as large as Central Park in Manhattan, but it is sizable.

About half-way around, I stopped at the Brooklyn Public Library’s main building (located near the park’s northeast corner), to take a break. Of course, I ended up checking out five books, to add to the four I’m already borrowing. We’re in the midst of purging large swaths of our book collection (due to lack of space), so I may have taken more books as a psychic safeguard against this considerable loss.

By the time I finished the circle, I felt exhausted, but elated as well. I work in a windowless office, a situation which slowly drives me crazy as Monday ages into Friday every week. Sometimes I feel dead working there (a situation I’ve been trying to remedy for awhile, but the economy being what it is…) Spending three hours around Prospect Park was a much needed mental refresher. I felt more alive than I have in a long while. It was good.
